Healthy Communities

Communities lie at the foundation of the solution to the problems of overweight and obesity. Emphasis should be placed on opportunities for education and support for the maintenance of healthy dietary choices and physical activity patterns.

Specific suggestions include developing and implementing the West Virginia Healthy Community designation program, modeled as a public-private partnership patterned after economic development initiatives.

Another recommendation is to promote faith-based efforts that encourage the adoption of healthy eating habits and engaging in regular physical activity.

Finally, all West Virginians should be encouraged to engage in daily, moderate physical activity that follows current recommendations.
